PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man faces a number of charges after being accused of assaulting several children. Pikeville Police were called to an apartment on College Street over a report of a domestic violence incident between a man and child. When they arrived, they were met outside by five children and a woman carrying a baby. The woman told police Deshaun Lemar Gwyn, 34, shoved her out of the way while she was holding the baby in order to attack their sons. WHITESBURG, Ky. — We now have a good idea about what prompted the cancellation of the most recent court hearing in the case against the former Letcher County sheriff accused of murdering a district judge. Former Letcher Sheriff Shawn Mickey Stines is charged with murder for shooting and killing Letcher District Judge Kevin Mullins while the two talked in the judge’s chambers. The shooting was captured on video, but Stines’ attorneys have said they plan to pursue an insanity defense. HARDY, Ky. — A Virginia woman was arrested after police found meth in her car when she passed through a Pike County roadblock. Pike County sheriff’s deputies were staging the checkpoint Saturday night along Route 319 at Hardy, when Cherish Dawn Conaway, 19, of Cedar Bluff, came driving through. Officers immediately smelled marijuana when they spoke with her, so they had her pull to the side.
