by RODERICK MULLINS ABINGDON, Va. — Former Dickenson County Public Schools teacher and Ervinton High School head football coach Curt Newsome has died at the age of 67. A graduate of Phoebus High School, Va., Newsome went on to play collegiately at Emory and Henry College. Upon graduation, his first coaching job would take him to Dickenson County to head up a struggling Ervinton Rebels football program. Floyd man arrested after woman stabbed
ENDICOTT, Ky. — A Floyd County man is in jail after police say he stabbed a woman Monday evening. Police were called to a home on the Right Fork of Home Branch, where a 45-year-old woman had been stabbed multiple times. After the attack the assailant, who the victim identified as Eddie Dmitruk, 58, of Prestonsburg, ran away from the residence. Police say the woman was stabbed twice in the chest, once in the elbow and once in the armpit. Human remains discovered in Knott County
AMBURGEY, Ky. — Kentucky State Police are investigating after human remains were discovered Monday morning in Knott County. Troopers, along with volunteer search-and-rescue personnel and K-9 teams from Indiana K-9 United, were searching a wooded area off Big Branch Road at Amburgey when the remains were found shortly before 10 a.m. The Knott County Coroner pronounced the individual dead at the scene. The remains have been sent to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy and positive identification. The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by Kentucky State Police Det. Nathan Roark.
