UK RFL: Rifle Begins 2026 with Two Tri-Matches in Alaska

PRESS RELEASE: UK ATHLETICS LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2026 rifle season has arrived as the University of Kentucky rifle team will compete for the first time this new year in back-to-back tri-matches against Alaska and Nebraska in Fairbanks, Alaska on Saturday and Sunday.  Both matches will start at Noon ET and feature two relays. The first relay will compete in smallbore and then air rifle, followed by the same format for the second relay. Lawrence oil well operator charged with Clean Water Act violation

ASHLAND, Ky. — A Lawrence County oil well operator has been indicted for a violation of the Clean Water Act. Joshua Ferguson is charged with a felony count of the charge in an indictment handed down in federal court on Thursday. The indictment alleges he dumped brine water from oil production into the Left Fork of Blaine Creek on Sept. 3. If convicted he faces a sentence of up to three years in prison and a fine between $5,000 and $50,000 for each day of violation. All local counties except Pike see unemployment down since last year

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The latest county-level unemployment figures show the jobless rating falling by about a full percentage point in most counties around the region, except for Pike County. November unemployment figures around the region from a low of 5.7 percent in Letcher County, to a high of 8.4 percent in Martin County, which is the highest in the state. And in most of the eight-county area, those figures are down from November of 2024.
