Paintsville tourism director dies

Jeremiah ParsonsPAINTSVILLE, Ky. — Paintsville Tourism has announced the death of its director, Jeremiah Parsons. Parsons had served as tourism director since 2022. “Jeremiah’s love for Paintsville, his kindness, and his unwavering dedication to our community will never be forgotten,” the agency said on its Facebook page. “He poured his heart into serving this city and uplifting the people and places he cared so deeply about.” The statement did not indicate the cause of death, except to say it was sudden.

Amber Spradlin estate urges judge to allow lawsuit to move forward

Amber SpradlinPRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The estate of Amber Nicole Spradlin is asking a Floyd Circuit Court judge to reject attempts by local governments and officials to have its wrongful death lawsuit dismissed. In a supplemental filing this week, attorneys for Spradlin’s estate argue that the City of Prestonsburg, Floyd County and several current and former officials should not be granted summary judgment in the case, which stems from Spradlin’s death in June 2023. Elizabeth Jones is suing district and several individuals affiliated with it, after she received a letter from the board’s attorney telling her she was not allowed to visit any of the district’s schools or attend any district-sponsored events.
