HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Panthers 3-Peat as All ‘A’ champs

Pikeville was dominate from the opening round through the championship game as the Lady Panthers three-peat as Queens of 15th Region All “A” Classic with an 84-35 win over Shelby Valley at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Tuesday night.

The Lady Panthers improved to 12-1 and move on to the state tournament later this month in Corbin.

Trinity Rowe led three players in double-figure scoring with 23 points and 10 assists. Kyera Thornsbury followed with 19 points and nine rebounds. Rylie Theiss tossed in 10.

Sadie Johnson scored 14 in the loss for the Lady Kats, now 10-3.

Martin County run out to a big first-quarter lead and cruised to a 74-44 win over East Ridge in the opening round of the boys’ 15th Region All “a” Classic Tournament played at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Tuesday night.

Luke Hale and Brayden McKenzie shared game-high scoring honors with 21 points each. 

Jacob Sturgill tallied 11 and Peyton Davis added 10 as the Cardinals (80-7) advanced to the semifinals.

Jackson Keene paced the Warriors, now 4-6, with 14 points. Dunner Ward chipped in nine.

Preece reaches scoring milestone

Paintsville senior Emilea Preece fired in a game-high 25 points and went over 2,000 points for her career as the Lady Tigers defeated Floyd Central, 71-39, in a game played on Wednesday night.

The Lady Tigers, now 8-6, outscored the Lady Jaguars (4-10) 24-5 over the final eight minutes.

Kylie Kinner and Karah Lafferty tossed in 13 points each.

Riley Jo Compton scored 14 in the loss.

Two-time defending champion Pikeville turned up the defensive pressure to run away and beat Martin County, 73-50, in the 15th Region All “A” Classic Tournament semifinal game played at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Monday night.

Senior Trinity Rowe fired in a game-high 25 points and dished out 10 assists as the Lady Panthers improved to 11-1.

Kristen Whited tossed in 15 points and Leighan Jackson added a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Laken Williams led the Lady Cardinals (11-5) with 15 points and Brooke Marcum scored 12.

Shelby Valley pulled away from Betsy Layne in the final three minutes to advance to the 15thRegion All “A” Classic Tournament championship game with a 48-40 in a matchup played at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Monday night.

Sadie Johnson finished with a game-high 17 points while Zoee Johnson added a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Lindsey Bowman tossed in 11 points, all in the first half, as the Lady Kats moved to 10-2.

Haleigh Damron paced the Lady Cats (9-5) with 11 points. Laci Hall chipped in nine.
